THE OPENING AND AWARD CEREMONY OF THE 5-YEAR NATIONAL SCULPTURE CONTEST AND EXHIBITION

On the morning of September 15, 2023, the Opening and Award Ceremony of the 5-year National Sculpture Competition and Exhibition took place at the Hanoi Museum.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Ta Quang Dong - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Nguyen Minh Nhut - Director of the Department of Culture and Arts of the Party Central Committee's Commission of Popularisation and Education; Mr. Ma The Anh - Director of the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition; Mr. Vi Kien Thanh - Director of the Cinema Department; Mr. Vuong Duy Bien - Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations; Mr. Luong Xuan Doan - Chairman of Vietnam Fine Arts Association; Mr. Do Dinh Hong - Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports; Mr. Tran Quoc Chiem - Chairman of Hanoi Union of Literature and Arts.

Delegates attended the ceremony.

The 5-year National Sculpture Competition and Exhibition in 2023, organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Hanoi People's Committee and the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports to honour and recognise the creative achievements of Vietnamese sculptors, painters, and artists. At the same time, it summarised the labour process of creating, publishing and introducing excellent sculptures from 2013 to 2023. The exhibition allows sculptors, artists, and painters to exchange ideas and creative experience in artistic work.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism - Mr. Ta Quang Dong, emphasised that the competition and Exhibition is an opportunity to look back at the formation and development of Vietnamese sculpture art. It is a decisive contribution and seamless transition between generations of artists that have created the success of Vietnamese sculpture.

Deputy Minister Mr. Ta Quang Dong congratulated the authors whose works won prizes. He praised the younger generation of sculptors who grew up with new creative thinking, exploration, and combining tradition with modernity, recognising national identity and integration with these artistic trends.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Mr. Ta Quang Dong gave his speech at the ceremony.

At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded prizes to 16 works, including 3 Second prizes, 3 Third prizes and 10 Consolation prizes.

 The authors won the second prize.

In addition to the award-winning works, the exhibition displayed 209 works by 164 authors. These works contain the artist's reflections and contemplations on contemporary life, conveying current social messages. Demonstrating changes in artistic concepts, sculptural language, forms of expression and techniques for presenting works; the expansion and richness of creative thinking and visual language with many styles; and the diversity of materials with new experimental research.

Delegates cut the opening ribbon.

Throughout the competition, it shows that Vietnamese sculpture has developed in both art and creative force, affirming that a generation of sculptors has been growing up with new innovative thinking and efforts. These artists explore and experiment with different materials.
