THE EXCAVATION AT THANH QUEN SITE (QUOC OAI - HANOI)

The Hanoi Museum collaborated with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to organize a historical excavation at Thanh Quen, Co Hien Village, Tuyet Nghia Commune, Hanoi – “Quen” is the common name of a village. The first excavation started in January 2023 and was commissioned to discover the scale and position of a monument that dates back to the 10th Century AD. This monument is significant as it reveals the history of the first 10 centuries of Hanoi and the Northern region of Vietnam.

At the end of 2022, on our visit to the traditional weaving village of Phung Xa Commune, My Duc District, Hanoi (about 40km from Hanoi center to the south). We met Ms. Phan Thi Thuan, a 70-year-old woman. She is small but agile, friendly and open. She has been attached to silkworms almost her life who bringing back the revival of the traditional craft village.

  In 1976, the Ninh Son tomb site (Ngoc Son commune, currently in Chuc Son town, Chuong My district, Hanoi) was discovered by chance during road construction. Then, the Ha Son Binh Department of Culture and Information conducted the excavation/ excavated.

On a hot summer day in 2020, we returned to Phu Tho Province to meet and collect memorabilia of veterans who fought on the battlefields of the resistance war against the US. One of the veterans was Mr. Ngo Van Dung (born in 1940), a native of Phu Nham Commune, Phu Ninh District, Phu Tho Province - he was part of the generation of veterans who believed - “Putting the pen down to take the gun up”. He personally crafted and kept a special memento, a comb made from the wreckage of an American A3J (RA5C) aircraft shot down on Le Truc Street in Hanoi in 1967.
