THE OPENING AND AWARD CEREMONY OF THE 2023 VIETNAM FINE ARTS COMPETITION AND EXHIBITION
The opening and award ceremony of the 2023 Vietnam Fine Arts Competition and Exhibition took place on the afternoon of December 6 at the Hanoi Museum.
The 2023 Vietnam Fine Arts Competition and Exhibition was directed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and chaired by the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition in coordination with the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and the Vietnam Fine Arts Association. This exhibition was organized to summarize and evaluate the achievements of artistic and creative labour, introducing excellent artworks by Vietnamese painters, artists, and sculptors to the domestic and international public for three years (2020 - 2023). This honours and recognizes artistic achievements, encourages painters, artists, and sculptors to create new works with valuable content and art to serve the cultural and spiritual life of the people, and contributes to promoting the Vietnamese fine arts market and developing the cultural industry.

Four months after its launch, the Organizing Committee has received 3,825 works from 1,513 authors from 63 provinces and cities throughout the country. The Arts Council selected 292 works (74 sculptures, 218 works of painting, graphics and other materials) to display at the exhibition.
In his opening speech, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong said: The Vietnam Fine Arts Competition and Exhibition is held periodically every three years to summarize and evaluate the achievements of artistic, creative labour and introduce excellent works by Vietnamese painters, artists, and sculptors to domestic and international artists.
Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong affirmed that the exhibition reflected the current Vietnamese artistic life, including the artists' thoughts, concerns, and contemplations on contemporary life, changes in creative concepts, and continuation between artists.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong delivered the speech at the ceremony.
The Art Council and prestigious Vietnamese painters and sculptors selected 292 works displayed at the exhibition, including 27 award-winning works. The works have high ideological and artistic value, convey clear social messages of the time, have expansion and richness in creative thinking, visual language with many styles, diversity in the form of technical expression of the work, and materials with new discoveries and new expressions.Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong confirmed that each exhibition is an opportunity to evaluate and reflect on the development path of Vietnam's fine arts, the influential contributions, and the seamless transition between generations of painters and sculptors. A generation of young artists has been growing up with new creative thinking, efforts to explore and experiment with materials that combine tradition and modernity, national identity and the trend of integration and globalization. This gives us the right to hope for the further development of Vietnam's fine arts, with more works of higher quality in the coming years.
Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission of Popularisation and Education, Tran Thanh Lam, and Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, Ta Quang Dong, awarded the first prize to the winning author.
At the exhibition's opening ceremony, the Organizing Committee also awarded prizes to 27 works, including 2 First prizes, 6 Second prizes, 10 Third prizes and 9 Consolation prizes. The two first prizes went to the work "Dáng hồng thơm hương" by author Le Nguyen Chinh (Ho Chi Minh City) and the work "Cây phong ba" by author Le Quang Sang (Hanoi).

According to the Organizing Committee, the works selected for display at the 2023 Vietnam Fine Arts Competition and Exhibition have ideological and artistic value, carry the breath of contemporary life, express thoughts, The artist's concern with the reality of life, richness of creative ideas, diversity in forms of expression and techniques for expressing works, visual language with many styles.The exhibition will be displayed at the Hanoi Museum from December 6 to December 20, 2023.
