Hanoi is located in the center of the Red River Delta which is accreted by the Red River and Thai Binh River systems. The development of Hanoi is associated with rivers, of which the Red River is the largest. The Red River is like a mother river that accretes alluvium for fertile soil and green trees, contributing to create a cultural space named Hanoi.

Professor Duong Quang Ham grew up in a family with a tradition of Confucianism in Phu Thi Village, Van Giang District, Hung Yen Province. His great-grandfather, Duong Duy Thanh, used to work as a Provincial Education Commissioner in Hanoi. His father Duong Trong Pho, eldest brother Duong Ba Trac joined the Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc movement, and both were exiled to Con Dao.

Tet Holiday, also known as Lunar New Year, is traditionally the most solemn holiday of the year for Vietnamese people. It marks the end of the old year at the time of the Pig on Lunar December 30th  (or the 29th for missing months) and welcomes the beginning of the new year, the year of the Rat,  on Lunar January 1st. During Lunar New Year, there are many ceremonies taking place including the Kitchen God's offering (Lunar December 23rd), Bamboo tree erection (from Lunar December 23rd to 30th),  Lunar New Year's Eve, the Earth God offering and spring lucky shoot picking.

51 years ago in December 1972, the US launched strategic air raids on Hanoi and major cities in the North with the hope of crushing the will of the Vietnamese people and forcing them to accept US conditions at the Paris Peace Talks. Over 12 days and nights the North Vietnamese army and people fought with determination to win the battle of the air. The victory "Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu in the air" forced the US government to declare a stop to bombing the North and sign the Paris Peace Accords.

Writer - journalist Duong Thi Xuan Quy was born on April 19th, 1941 at 195 Hang Bong Street, Hanoi. Her hometown was in Phu Thi Village, Me So Commune, Van Giang District, Hung Yen Province. She was born in a family of French anti-colonial patriotic intellectuals and artists. Her grandfather, Duong Trong Pho, campaigned early on for Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc movement and was exiled to Con Dao Island by the French colonialists. Her father, Duong Tu Quan, was a teacher who later turned to journalism and became the chief editor of the Literature Magazine and then Tri Tan Magazine.

THANH MAI BELL - THE FIRST NATIONAL TREASURE OF THE HANOI MUSEUM

On January 14th, 2015, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued Decision No.53/QD-TTg, recognizing Vietnam National Treasures (Time 3) for 12 artifacts and groups of artifacts including the Thanh Mai bell. It was a great pleasure for all the staff of the Hanoi Museum.
