On January 14, 2025, the opening ceremony of the exhibition took place at the Hanoi Museum Youth Creativity Using Materials from the Traditional Craft Villages of Phú Xuyên, showcasing the research findings and creative designs of third- and fourth-year students from the specialized departments of the University of Industrial Fine Arts, with the aim of applying traditional craft materials to the development of applied arts; contributing to the preservation, promotion, and development of the traditional craft heritage of Phu Xuyen District in particular and traditional craft villages throughout Hanoi in general.

The exhibition is organized by the Hanoi Creative Activities Coordination Center and the Hanoi Museum, in collaboration with the University of Industrial Fine Arts and the People’s Committee of Phu Xuyen District. The Hanoi Creative Activities Coordination Center was launched in December 2024 with the following objectives: Strengthening international cooperation; Encouraging creativity in urban development; Creating cultural products and services; Developing and expanding opportunities for creativity and culture; Promoting access to and participation in cultural life, particularly for disadvantaged groups; Integrating culture and creativity into local development. The exhibition Youth Creativity Using Materials from the Traditional Craft Villages of Phú Xuyên The initiative aims to fulfill Hanoi City’s commitments upon joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network; to connect and support capacity-building in creativity for organizations and individuals in the field of creative design; and to establish a network of young creative designers in Hanoi.

With their rich history and the meaningful stories hidden within each craft village, these traditions served as a source of inspiration for students across four academic disciplines to refine and innovate in their works. This is reflected in nearly 20 pieces inspired by craft villages and applied to their respective fields: lacquer art, graphic design, fashion design, and interior design. Each craft village exhibition space draws inspiration from historical and folk tales, as well as traditional craft materials, with titles such as: Village Fragrance—Vietnamese Soul, Dragons and Snakes Ascending to the Clouds, Threads Penetrating Wood, Dance and Sound, Fateful Encounter, and Tò He He…
The works, characterized by soft lines and bold colors, create a harmonious blend of culture and aesthetics within a contemporary living space. The exhibition space—where the products are displayed—effectively incorporates traditional craft materials featuring patterns deeply rooted in Vietnamese culture. The uniqueness and distinct character of materials from each craft village create a subtle contrast, highlighting the beauty of long-standing cultural and historical values, with the ability to preserve timeless beauty. At the same time, the exhibition offers a creative, modern perspective on traditional products, sparking a sense of pride in cultural heritage within every Vietnamese person.
The exhibition will take place from January 14 to January 19, 2025, at the Hanoi Museum.
